From 1st Sgt. Mazzarella...

First I would like to thank the following for making the 6--9 hour drive to and from Gettysburg,Pa. joining me at the Ike farm event this past weekend.

Joe Maz, Louis Carbone, Anthony Adamsky, Jim Pereira (as navy)Paul Coska jr, Paul Coska sr., Paul Campbell (great to see you at an event again), Brain Dugrenier(1stID), Chris Soleimani(Teixeira) Red Cross Nr.,
Karey Barber Red Cross Nr., Bob Barber (navy beachmaster) with Jeep,
Rev Kinard and wife Remie who set up their Chaplain display (he need to get a more period display sign) and held a Mass Sun in our area which was attended ed by around 30+ people...  Paul Coska sr may be joining up-because of the good time he had in the borrowed uniform which he looked good in....

A very good time was had by all present, We set up Fri afternoon and took down the display Sun around 12:30 for the ride home.

This event was a smaller version of Reading without the planes.... set up right in the field next to Gen./Pres. Ike 's house which was a great spot,  ground was a little soggy so driving stakes in was very easy but with the jeeps, halftrack and other vehicles going back and forth all day Fri-Sat-Sun over the same passageway through the camp display area, made it tire track rutted in the spots where they drove----Lots to see including the farm, Ike house itself, the Gettysburg battlefield and new visitors center.

Fri morning 6 of us visited the Carlisle Army research center and display area (the one you see along side 81 when you go to the Gap event) for around 2-2 1/2 hrs.  This place is worth a stop.   We also found out that in may they hold a timeline event and PAY  period reenactment units (Rev --> Vietnam) to man the different display areas for the weekend event.   After setting up the display (tents) we went to the New Gettysburg CW visitors center saw the new video presentation and toured the museum, after which some of the troops went to a Chinese buffet for supper then settled down back at camp or their hotel for the night.

On Sat. (at O-dark thirty) got up and 5 troops went off on the battle to liberate a French town--the convoy left at 0745 for the town of New Oxford PA, street signs and other items were changed to make it look more like a French town, after liberating the town from 60 German troops and vehicles, they returned around 1300, there were 25 + Allied vehicles with troops in this battle convoy...   returning troops said it was really worth the convoy ride--10 miles out and back in WWII vehicles-being attacked by Germans in the town---YD troops rode in the halftrack....
Rest of Sat. was spent in and around the display area---Sat night 7 troops went out to dinner at Gettysburg Eddy's rest. named after a baseball Hall of Famer from G'burg area..after which, 6 individuals went to the swing dance held at the G'burg CW visitors center while others stayed in camp or went back to their hotel (me &  Joe the old guys),   ...those who went to the dance said it was nicer then other they have been to at other events...Anthony, Jim, Chris, Bob or Karey can tell you all about this part of the event as they can compare it better then I to other dances they have been to at other events.  I stayed for awhile, listened to the music, watched them dance but being tired went back to the hotel in G'burg early and watched the FB game...

Sun. morning I took Anthony, Louis, Brian on a tour of the G'burg Battlfield from 0800-1030 hrs.. others stayed back at display, later that afternoon we struck camp/display and headed home....

Thanks again to those who were able to make it to this event and we'll see you all at Camp Edwards this coming weekend.
